Boat & Stay Waypoints on the Lakes of the Old North State
by Susan Shinn
If you’re planning a fall fishing trip to Kerr Lake or Lake Gaston, several marinas and hotels are ready to welcome you.
The Stonehouse Timber Lodge is located on Lake Gaston in Littleton. In the 1960s, it was a fishing camp. The property was taken over in 1997 by Richard and Martha Courser, its third owners. The place underwent a major renovation, with cabin refurbishing and the addition of more housing as well.
Today, the Coursers offer a variety of cabins, mobile homes and houses, eight on the waterfront and 12 off the water. Stonehouse Timber Lodge also features a private boat ramp, beach area and boat house. more>> |

Boat Camping: Getting Started
by Joyce Deaton

Boating on the central North Carolina lakes – what could be more fun?
For many, it’s even more fun combining boating and camping at one of the 20 or so lakeside campgrounds where you, the kids, the dog and your boat are all welcome. It’s an easy, inexpensive way to get the family together and enjoy living simply in the heart of nature. You’ll find sunset and sunrise are the day’s biggest events, food tastes better in the open air, and you can look your spouse and kids in the face without the distractions of TV and video games.
At most lakes in this area, there’s little private development and the majority of campgrounds are provided by state or county parks. There’s an abundance of campsites, and reasonable rates make a family camping vacation an excellent choice for families keeping a close eye on their budgets. more>> |

Even more importantly than the gear and technique to the beginner’s success is the driving.
Wakeboard gear can be inexpensive part of getting started. In general, the goal is to find a board, boots, and vest that “will work for everyone.” And when I say “everyone” I mean little sister, brother, mom and dad. This is not only uncomfortable but is not safe for all riders to share gear. Three things to think about are board size, boot size, and life jacket size. more>> |
